LFC draw 1-1 with Aga Khan Gymkhana

LFC played out a hard fought draw against the Aga Khan Gymkhana football team

The match took place on Sunday, The third of March and was held at Aga Khan Gymkhana. It was a fast paced, physical match that really brought out the best in both teams. The Aga Khan team attacked LFC right from the get go, creating several chances and dazzling the LFC defenders with their quick movement and passing. However LFC soon began to settle into the game, keeping spells of possession and mustering a few shot, albeit off target. Still it was an encouraging sign. Not having the ball meant the LFC players were forced to push up and press in order to cause a mistake by the Aga Khan team. This strategy led to LFC’s goal. Striker Sherwin Lucas pounced on some lazy defending and his fierce low cross was turned into the Aga Khan goal by the opposition defender.

The goal gave Laurentian football club a boost. They kept possession well and managed some more shots, Kendrick’s attempt going narrowly wide. The match then turned into a box to box affair with attempts at one end soon followed by attempts at the other. Aga Khan started to dominate the chances but weren’t able to make anything count as the first half was brought to an end.

The second half began much like the first. The AKG football team went right on the attack, testing goal keeper Mario on many occasions. The ball possession was more with AKG as they pressed hard for an equalizer which eventually came about. Their goal came through a corner kick. A short corner, coupled with slow reaction from the LFC defenders allowed the AKG winger to get in a cross which was met by the striker. From a yard out he just couldn’t miss. LFC went on the attack once more but were largely unsuccessful. Brandon missed an opportunity to put the team in front towards the end. The final whistle was blown and the match was brought to an end.

This event, the Youth Republic football spring festival was organized by Youth Republic, facilitated by Agha Khan Gymkhana. After the match certificates were distributed to both team members and each team received a trophy. The panel of guest consisted of distinguished guests from Abbott pharma, State Bank of Pakistan and the members of YOUTH REPUBLIC.
